Divorce is messy, and most people have a lot of questions when they first start looking for support.
This FAQ answers the most common questions I hear as a divorce coach — from what divorce coaching actually is, to how it works with lawyers and therapists, to what you can expect from Breaking Upward’s approach.
1. What is divorce coaching, and how is it different from therapy?
Divorce coaching is action-oriented. It’s about creating a plan, making decisions, and staying grounded when everything feels like chaos. Therapy is essential for mental health and healing — but coaching picks up where therapy leaves off. I don’t diagnose or treat; I give you tools, strategies, and support to move forward.
2. Who is divorce coaching for?
Divorce coaching is for anyone navigating the mess of separation — but my focus is especially on women and parents who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what’s next. If you’re dealing with co-parenting challenges, financial stress, or just the emotional rollercoaster, divorce coaching gives you clarity and a roadmap to follow.
3. What does a divorce coach actually do?
Think of me as your no-BS guide through the fog. I help you:
Avoid costly mistakes during your divorce process
Stay calm and grounded in high-stress moments
Create practical plans for custody, finances, and next steps
Rebuild your identity and confidence post-divorce
I’m not your lawyer or therapist — I’m the person in your corner making sure you don’t lose yourself (or your sanity) along the way.
4. Do I need a lawyer if I work with you?
Yes. Coaching is not legal advice. Most of my clients work with both a lawyer and me — the lawyer handles the paperwork and legal strategy, and I help you stay organized, prepared, and emotionally steady through the process. I can’t replace an attorney, but I can make working with one easier, less overwhelming, and more effective.
5. How do your sessions work?
I use a framework I call Pause • Process • Plan • Proceed. We’ll start by slowing down enough to take stock, then work through the emotional clutter, map out a plan, and finally put it into action.
Depending on the package you choose, sessions might be a single 90-minute clarity call, a 30-day reset with weekly support, or a 3-month intensive where we tackle everything step by step. No matter the format, you’ll leave each session with clear next steps — not just “homework,” but real progress.
6. How much does divorce coaching cost?
The cost depends on how much support you need. I offer three levels:
Divorce Clarity Call — one 90-minute session for quick direction
30-Day Reset — four sessions to get organized and moving forward
New Chapter Intensive — a 3-month program with full support
Coaching is an investment in avoiding costly mistakes and building a stronger future. You can see full details by clicking here.
7. Do you only work with women?
While my coaching is designed with women in mind — especially moms navigating divorce — I work with anyone who wants support, clarity, and a plan. Divorce impacts people differently, but the need for grounded, no-BS guidance is universal.
8. Can divorce coaching help with co-parenting challenges?
Yes. Co-parenting can be one of the hardest parts of divorce. I help you create parenting plans, set healthy boundaries, and stay steady in high-conflict situations. You’ll also get tools and worksheets to make communication with your ex easier and less emotional.
9. Do you offer group sessions or just one-on-one coaching?
Right now, I only offer one-on-one coaching, because every divorce story is unique. That said, I plan to launch small group workshops in the future — a way to connect with others going through the same thing while still getting structured guidance.
10. How do I get started?
The first step is simple: book a free consultation call. No pressure, no strings. We’ll talk about where you are, what’s keeping you stuck, and whether coaching is the right fit. You’ll walk away with more clarity — whether you choose to work with me or not.
